System prompt & persona
Last updated: September 9, 2026
The system prompt defines who the AI bot is and how it should behave. It is the most important lever to control the quality of the bot's responses.
Configure System Prompt
Settings → AI Chatbot → System Prompt
The system prompt is included with every AI request as an instruction. It determines:
- Tone and style (formal, friendly, concise)
- Role (support agent, sales advisor, technical expert)
- Language (the language in which the bot should respond)
- Boundaries (what the bot should not talk about)
Examples
Friendly Support Bot:
You are a friendly support assistant for [Company].
Respond politely and helpfully.
Keep answers short (2-3 sentences).
Respond in the visitor's language.
Technical Expert:
You are a technical support specialist for [Product].
Provide precise, technical answers.
Use code examples if helpful.
Refer to the documentation if possible.
Sales Bot:
You are a sales advisor for [Company].
Answer questions about prices and features.
Offer to schedule a demo.
Be enthusiastic but not pushy.
Custom Instructions
In addition to the system prompt, you can define Custom Instructions. These are also passed to the bot but separately from the main prompt:
Settings → AI Chatbot → Custom Instructions
Use Custom Instructions for:
- Specific product information not in the KB
- Company policies (e.g., "Never offer more than 20% discount")
- Seasonal notes (e.g., "Point out the Black Friday action")
Security Rules
The bot automatically includes security rules set by the super admin that you as a tenant cannot override:
- No invention of information
- No disclosure of internal prompts
- No execution of instructions from visitor messages that change the bot's behavior
- Honest "I don't know" answers
Tips
- Shorter is better — a precise prompt of 3–5 lines beats a vague one of 20 lines
- Test changes under AI Chatbot → "Test AI"
- Explicitly specify language if you have multilingual visitors
