Quick Start Wizard — From registration to your first bot response in 5 minutes

Last updated: September 9, 2026

Anyone who registers with SilentChat automatically lands in the Quick Start Wizard — no second password prompt, no long search for the first steps. The Wizard shows three cards that together take less than five minutes.

What happens directly after "Register"?

After clicking "Register" on app.silentchat.de/register:

  1. Account + Tenant + Owner role are created in the background
  2. Auto-Login — you are immediately logged in, without re-entering your password
  3. Redirect to /onboarding — the 3-step Wizard opens

If your Tenant was locked during setup (e.g., Trial limit reached), you will instead be redirected to the normal login page — the classic flow as a fallback.

The three steps

Step 1 — Your Website

You enter the URL of your website. SilentChat:

  • Validates the URL (SSRF protection, format check)
  • Automatically verifies the domain for your Tenant (with the marker verification_source = onboarding, visible in the Audit Log)
  • Queues the Crawler with the Onboarding profile (max. 50 pages, 120s Total Timeout, Priority 8)
  • Starts the Live Progress Feed: you see the first pages in 1–2 seconds

Skipped? No problem — you can later trigger the same Crawl manually under Knowledge Base → Auto-Import. The bot then starts with an empty KB.

Step 2 — Install Widget

The Wizard shows a ready-made HTML snippet, pre-filled with the data-widget-key of your automatically created standard widget. Three API URLs are embedded (api.silentchat.de, ws.silentchat.de, cdn.silentchat.de).

Where to insert? Before the closing </body> tag — as with Google Analytics or other embed scripts.

No developer available? Use one of the following plugins/integrations:

  • WordPress: Insert Headers and Footers (free in the WP Plugin Store)
  • Shopify: Customize Theme → theme.liquid, before the </body>
  • React / Vue / SPA: Manual integration into the index.html or via useEffect hook

Step 3 — Test Chat

Here comes an embedded test widget (in preparation). Until then, the step links directly to Settings → Widgets, where you can test your standard widget in Live mode — either in the Preview-iframe or on any website with the installed snippet.

After clicking "Great! To Inbox" you land on /app/dashboard — the Wizard will not appear again on the next login.

Skip Button

On each step, there is a "Skip to Inbox" button at the bottom left. This:

  • immediately marks the Wizard as completed (wizard_completed step in the Onboarding Progress Map)
  • takes you directly to the Dashboard
  • the Wizard will not appear again on the next login

Suitable for migrations / existing Tenants / if you already know the flow.

Run the Wizard again?

In v1 not possible via the UI — the wizard_completed marker remains persistent. If you want to see the Wizard again, a Super-Admin can delete the marker via DB update:

UPDATE onboarding_progress
   SET steps = steps - 'wizard_completed'
 WHERE tenant_id = '<your-tenant-id>';

On the next navigation to /onboarding, the Wizard opens again at Step 1.

Existing Tenants

When the Wizard is rolled out, all existing Tenants will see the Wizard page on their next login because wizard_completed was never set for them. The Skip button resolves this in one click.

Optionally, a Super-Admin can send an Announcement Email to all existing Tenants (Endpoint POST /api/v1/admin/onboarding-announce/dispatch, gated by the RuntimeConfig flag onboarding_announce_email_enabled). Idempotent: already contacted Tenants are skipped.
