Accessibility in the widget — font and window size

Last updated: September 10, 2026

Two settings give the visitor control over the display — not you. You provide the option; what the visitor does with it remains in their browser and does not change your configuration.

Both can be found under Widgets → Open Widget → Customize → Agent & AI Identity. Both are enabled by default.

Visitor can enlarge the font

When enabled, two buttons with a small and a large A appear in the header of the chat window. Four stages:

StageFontMessage text
1 (Default)100 %14 px
2115 %16.1 px
3130 %18.2 px
4145 %20.3 px

It stops at the ends instead of wrapping around: Someone on the largest stage who presses the large A again does not unexpectedly get the smallest. The button becomes pale, but does not disappear — a button that jumps away leaves exactly the people clueless for whom the function is intended.

What grows with it

The entire reading text of the chat window: messages, input field, header, tabs, timestamps, quick replies, forms, and the articles in the help tab.

Symbols and avatars do not grow. A larger letter in a circle with unchanged edge length would not be more readable, but cut off. The button on your site (the closed launcher) also remains unchanged — it belongs to the layout of your website, and the buttons are not accessible from there.

Visitor can enlarge the window

When enabled, a handle appears on the corner of the chat window. The visitor uses it to drag the window larger.

Value
Smallest size300 × 420 pixels
Largest size900 × 1000 pixels
Additionally limited to90 % of the browser window

Operable with mouse, finger, and arrow keys; with Shift in larger steps, with Home back to your set size.

Where the handle does not appear

  • on screens narrower than 640 pixels — there the window fills the area anyway
  • in embedded display in the page flow, because there your layout determines the size

What is stored — and where

Both values are in the visitor's browser, separately per widget. They do not end up with us, not in your evaluation, and not on another device of the same visitor. If they delete their browser data, your setting applies again.

A size saved on a large monitor is cropped when loaded on smaller screens. Without this, the window including the close button would run out of the picture.

Recommendation

Enable the font size if your visitors are older or your offering targets people with impaired vision. It is the more effective of the two levers: A large window with small font helps no one.

The window size is additionally worth it if your conversations contain a lot of text or long help articles.
