Create & configure widget
A widget is the chat window displayed on your website. You can create multiple widgets for different websites or purposes.
Create widget
- Navigate to Settings → Widgets
- Click on "New Widget"
- Assign a Name (e.g., "Homepage", "Support Portal", "Sales")
- The widget automatically receives a Public Key (
pk_...) — this is required for integration
Customize appearance
Under the "Design" tab, you can make the following settings:
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Primary color | Main color of the widget (header, buttons) |
| Background color | Background of the chat window |
| Text color | Color of text elements |
| Position | bottom-right or bottom-left |
| Show branding | Toggle SilentChat logo in the widget |
| Agent name | Display name of the agent in the widget |
| Agent avatar | URL of a profile picture for the agent |
Language
Select the language of the widget under "Language". This affects the UI texts in the widget (buttons, placeholders, system messages).
Welcome message
The welcome message is displayed when a visitor opens the widget and has no active conversation. Examples:
- "Hello! How can we help you?"
- "Welcome to [Company]! Ask us your question."
Offline message
The offline message is displayed when the widget is offline — either outside business hours or when no agent is online and require_agent_online is enabled (default):
- "We are currently unavailable. Leave a message and we will get back to you!"
What visitors actually see (form, hidden widget, or a responding chatbot) is controlled by the offline behavior — see the article Business Hours.
Widget status
- Active: Widget is visible and functional on the website
- Inactive: Widget is deactivated, not loaded
Multiple widgets
You can create an unlimited number of widgets (depending on your plan). Typical scenarios:
- Per website: One widget per domain/subdomain
- Per department: Different widgets for support, sales, etc.
Each widget has its own settings, domains, and optionally its own AI configuration.
