SMTP settings

Administration → Settings → SMTP

This is where you set up the server through which SilentChat sends its emails — invitations, verifications, password resets, notifications.

Configuration

Host · Port · Username · Password · Sender email.

The usual port for submission is 587 with STARTTLS.

Test Connection

Send Test sends a real email to a specified address. If it fails, the message indicates the step at which it failed — connection, login, or handover. This is the difference between "wrong password" and "port blocked".

Diagnostics

Run Diagnostics checks three things individually:

CheckAnswers
DNS ResolutionDoes the hostname resolve, and to which addresses?
TCP ConnectionDoes the server accept connections on this port at all?
TLS CertificateIssuer and remaining validity.

The diagnostics show values, not just traffic lights — resolved addresses, host and port, issuer and remaining validity. A traffic light without a value would only leave the path to the server console in case of doubt.

Regarding the TLS line: If it appears at all, DNS and TCP were in order — in case of a connection error, the diagnostics exit earlier and do not show any TLS information.

If sending works but diagnostics complain

Then the diagnostics are meant, not the mail route. The most reliable proof remains the test send: If the email arrives, the sending works.
